The Presidents Message April 2008

Greetings ACES Members,

Just a reminder that we start our new season of competition on May 1, 2008.  I hope you will all make an effort to attend our kick-off meeting.

Please send in those digital images as soon as possible.  If you need to know how to submit your digital images, or if you would like a refresher course, please click on the link below for detailed instructions.

Prints are not dead!  Pull out your prints, dust them off and get them submitted on May 1.  Let's make this coming season a great run for those wonderful prints you have been storing behind the door, or in the closet, or in the box in the garage!  If you need to know how to submit prints or if you just need a quick review of the guidelines for submitting prints, please click on the below link.

You will find submitting digital images or entering prints into a competition is quite easy, and there is always someone at the meetings available to help you with entry or questions.  Look for Lara (our new Print Competition Chair) or Kelly (her assistant) and they can assist you or answer any questions you may have.

This is going to be a great year for ACES!  We have gathered an awesome crew of volunteers.  By the way, why not help out at the meetings or outings, just send me an email stating, "hey Gary, I want to help out," because there are plenty of tasks left to go around.  Become a volunteer and experience the reward of helping YOUR club excel as a fun and educational venue to share our common joy of photography.  It won't hurt, I promise!

Reminder:  Start setting aside some images to share at our first of the season Share A Picture night on May 15.  Roger will be leading the way on this amazing program, so watch for additional details from Roger about these fun nights.

If you just can't get excited about the competition or Share A Picture night, or the many outings, or the workshops, or the banquets...remember - WE HAVE SNACKS AT THE MEETINGS!!!

Okay, to summarize, here are important dates to remember:

MAY 01 - First competition of the season
MAY 15 - First Share A Picture night of the season
MAY 17 - Outing to the Renaissance Faire in Irwindale.  (see Roger's email)

Hopefully, you have enough information to get through May without asking yourself, "what am I going to do today?"  Get out and shoot, shoot, shoot!  Then submit, submit, submit.  Please make every effort to make the field trips as this committee works very hard planning the outings.  I will have a follow up email a little later that will detail some other exciting opportunities for our club members.

By the way - wonderful time at the awards banquet!  Congratulations to all of the winners, especially the grand prize winner: Image Of The Year, Bill Davenport.  Way to go Bill.  Thank you Tom Griffithe and the others who worked so hard to make the banquet another great success!  Thank you!

Our next banquet will be Christmas 2008, so mark your calendars, no excuses now because I am letting you know 237 days ahead of time (yes, I actually counted them all).  That will be on Saturday night, December 13th, 6:30 PM, Marie Calendars in Anaheim on Euclid north of Lincoln.  Carolyn Espinosa will be planning this exciting event.  Now you have to keep this email for the entire year just so you will have the scoop on the best party in town.

Meet your new Board members for the 2008-2009 season:

President: Gary Gionet
Vice-President: Walter Smith
Treasurer: Gerry Sietsema
Secretary: Kelly Gionet

I will have a complete list of the section chairs available at the May 1st meeting.

Do you have a great idea, or a questions about ACES?  Well, now you have my email address so zip off a message or two and lets get talking.

See you all soon - MAY 1 remember!

Gary
